'It's a roller coaster,' one CEO said of investors' reaction to the leadership chaos
SAN FRANCISCO — During a discussion on Wednesday, drug industry executives and an academic expert voiced their concerns regarding the recent departures of key officials at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They highlighted how this turnover has generated significant anxiety and uncertainty for those engaged in the development of drugs for rare diseases, while also debating the extent of flexibility the agency should permit in the design of clinical trials.
At the STAT Breakthrough Summit West, Yael Weiss, CEO of Mahzi Therapeutics, elaborated on her experiences with investor inquiries. She revealed that she frequently receives anxious emails from investors questioning how the ongoing upheaval at the FDA might affect her company's prospects.
"There isn't a day where I don't find an email in my inbox where my investors are questioning the recent news they read, and how it will affect our future as a company, our certainty of getting our drugs approved," Weiss stated. "It's a roller coaster."
