BBC confirms new Strictly Come Dancing hosts
TV presenter Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe, and professional dancer Johannes Radebe have been announced as the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing.
The BBC has confirmed that this trio will take over hosting duties from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who departed from the dance competition last year.
Willis expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating that she is a "huge fan" of the show, and added, "To be stepping into the Strictly ballroom is something I can't quite comprehend."
Widdicombe shared his excitement, saying that he is "giddy with excitement, honoured, and a little overawed to be given the chance to step into the biggest shoes in television."
Radebe, a professional dancer previously featured on the show, remarked, "To be returning to Strictly Come Dancing in this new role is beyond anything I ever imagined."
The decision follows an intensive audition process, which included screen tests with several prominent television personalities.
Among those who participated in the auditions was Zoe Ball, who later reflected on her experience, mentioning that she had worked through "the seven stages of grief and rejection" upon learning that she had not been selected.
Judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke will all return for the upcoming series, which is set to launch in the autumn.
However, the BBC recently announced that five of the show's professional dancers will not be returning. Out of the 20 dancers featured last year, 15 will return, accompanied by "fresh top talent from the international dance world," as stated by the BBC.
Kate Phillips, the BBC's chief content officer, commented, "Emma, Johannes, and Josh's chemistry is undeniable. There’s been so much speculation and hype, so I’m relieved we can share the news with the public at last! I'd like to thank all the brilliant people we saw before making this tough decision. But the most beloved ballroom in the UK always leads the way, and in a Strictly first we have chosen three outstanding hosts to take up the mantle."
