Kylie Minogue Refutes Rumor She Appears on Madonna's 'Confessions II'
Kylie Minogue has clarified ongoing speculation regarding her potential collaboration with Madonna on the forthcoming album, Confessions II. Scheduled for release on July 3, this album marks the 15th studio LP by the Queen of Pop and serves as a companion piece to the 2005 record, Confessions on a Dance Floor. Fans had been buzzing with hopes of a duet between the two iconic artists.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times promoting her new Netflix documentary, Kylie, Minogue stated, "That's a random thing. There was a rumor I was on her album, but I'm not — I'm excited to hear it, all."
While Minogue will not be featured on Confessions II, she did announce her own new music. "There's a new song called 'Light Up' that lives perfectly within the documentary," she shared. "It's not a 'Padam,' but it's got a lot of heart."
On the inspiration for "Light Up," Minogue remarked, "Initially, I was thinking about my mom, 'cause you can see in this documentary — don't make me cry — I love her so much. I was writing about when you're struggling, whether you're a child or a grown-up, and someone who loves you will look into your eyes and, like a manga cartoon, you kind of zoom in and you see this world of possibility. When you're lost, helpless, or glassy-eyed, someone who can see in you what you can't see can light you up, and you can get through that moment."
She elaborated, "You can get out on stage and do that thing that you're supposed to do when everything feels like you couldn't do it, so it's like parental love, friendship love, can spread to audience love. Because they will give you the strength to go out and have those moments to share. It's a beautiful thing."
Both Minogue and Madonna shared the stage in 2024 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles during Madonna's Celebration concert. The duo performed duets of Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" in honor of International Women's Day.
In the previous year, Minogue humorously reflected on the formidable presence they would command if they were to perform together. "She's going on tour. I don't have Madonna's number, but if I was in town and she was in town, it would be amazing," she expressed during an interview with 103.5 KTU. "The building would probably fall down. We'd need to send out warnings!"
As for Confessions II, Madonna has released two tracks thus far: "I Feel So Free" and the collaboration titled "Bring Your Love," featuring Sabrina Carpenter.
