Watch Stephen Colbert Get Questioned by Billy Crystal, Robert De Niro, Martha Stewart, and More
In the penultimate episode of The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert participated in the well-known "Colbert Questionnaire," a segment featuring 15 questions directed at Colbert himself for the first time.
Rather than having a single questioner, Colbert invited several of his celebrity friends to take part. John Dickerson, a former anchor on CBS Evening News, took the role of host for this segment, introducing an impressive lineup of guests including Billy Crystal, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Josh Brolin, Martha Stewart, Mark Hamill, Jim Gaffigan, Jeff Daniels, Tiffany Haddish, Evie McGee Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Ben Stiller, Aubrey Plaza, James Taylor, and Robert De Niro.
The questioning began with Billy Crystal, who asked Colbert, "What is the best sandwich?" After some deliberation, Colbert ultimately declared, "Katz's Deli's hot pastrami sandwich, that's the best sandwich." Josh Brolin's question about "What is the scariest animal?" led Colbert to ponder the trapdoor spider, while Mark Hamill inquired if Colbert had ever sought an autograph from someone.
Colbert recounted an experience with Steve Martin: "I did a bit with Steve Martin years ago, the first time I ever had him on the old show... A huge fan of Steve Martin. Like he's in my Mount Rushmore of comedy... At the end of the show, I asked him, 'Hey, would you mind signing this?' He just signed across the top of his face. I had it framed on a lovely little background and hung it in my office. I like to say in my office, 'It's always Steve Martin o'clock.'"
When questioned by Jeff Daniels about his favorite action movie, Colbert identified Raiders of the Lost Ark. He also informed Tiffany Haddish that he favors aisle seats on planes due to having "the bladder of a baby chipmunk." His wife, Evie, later joined the conversation to ask about his favorite smell.
"My favorite smell is when we are going out someplace and you go upstairs to get ready first. Then I come up to follow you, and I know that you've just come out of the shower because I can smell that rose lotion. I know that you're in there wearing very little," he shared.
The final query from Dickerson asked Colbert to encapsulate the rest of his life in five words. Colbert summarized: "My family, my friends, fun."
Over the course of the show, Colbert has put a wide array of guests through the "Colbert Questionnaire," including notable figures such as Prince Harry, Barack Obama, Keanu Reeves, Bad Bunny, Meryl Streep, Bono, and Ian McKellen.
