Scott Mills faced a police investigation regarding allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy in 2018. However, the case was ultimately closed due to insufficient evidence.

The Metropolitan Police disclosed that a man in his 40s was questioned in relation to allegations purportedly occurring between 1997 and 2000. This investigation was initiated in December 2016, following a referral from another police force concerning these serious allegations.

In May 2019, the Crown Prosecution Service concluded that there was not enough evidence to proceed with charges, leading to the closure of the case.

On Monday, the BBC announced the termination of Mills' contract, citing concerns related to his personal conduct. The organization has not disclosed specifics about the allegations.

Following the official announcement, it was confirmed that Scott Mills is no longer under contract with the BBC. His final show aired on Tuesday, March 24, during which he remarked, "Back tomorrow." Subsequently, DJ Gary Davies took over the show on the following day.

The initial report regarding Mills’ departure appeared in the Mirror, noting that the allegation pertains to a historical relationship.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police indicated that the investigation into Mills included cautionary questioning in July 2018 relating to the historic allegations. A comprehensive file of evidence was presented to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined that the evidential requirements were not fulfilled, leading to the investigation's closure in May 2019.

Scott Mills, who took over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025, has been with the BBC for over 25 years and was considered one of their top earners, with an income ranging between £355,000 and £359,999 in the past year.

This abrupt dismissal adds to a series of challenges for the BBC, following other recent controversies involving high-profile presenters such as Huw Edwards and Tim Westwood.
