Raducanu beaten in French Open first round
Emma Raducanu's journey in the French Open concluded prematurely as she faced a challenging first-round defeat against Argentina's Solana Sierra.
The match began unfavorably for the British number one, who was unable to secure a single game during a lackluster first set that lasted a mere 25 minutes. Displaying resilience, Raducanu managed to recover from a double-break deficit in the second set, ultimately pushing the set to a tie-break.
Nevertheless, she was unable to complete the comeback as world number 68 Sierra regained her composure to finish the match with a scoreline of 6-0, 7-6 (7-4).
Raducanu's performance in the 2026 season has been severely affected by a post-viral illness, which sidelined her from the WTA Tour for over two months after her participation in Indian Wells in March.
Her preparation leading up to the French Open was less than optimal, highlighted by a first-round exit at the Strasbourg Open just days prior, representing her only competitive match on clay before the tournament.
