Sombr Sings Aching 'Homewrecker' Hit in a Rainstorm During AMAs Performance
Sombr took the stage at the American Music Awards, presenting his acclaimed pop-rock expertise through a captivating performance of "Homewrecker," which has been nominated for Song of the Summer at this year's event.
Following his victory for Best Rock/Alternative Song with "Back to Friends," Sombr showcased his talent as he delivered the poignant chorus of "Homewrecker" amid an electrifying backdrop of lightning and a downpour of rain on stage. Embracing the theatricality of the moment, he slicked back his hair and wiped his eyeliner, concluding the song with a dramatic flourish.
As one of the evening's most nominated artists, Sombr holds a total of seven nominations. Beyond his win for Best Rock/Alternative Song and the nod for Song of the Summer, the 20-year-old artist is also up for New Artist of the Year, Breakthrough Rock/Alternative Artist, Song of the Year, Breakthrough Album of the Year, and Best Rock/Alternative Album for his debut record, I Barely Know Her.
In a review of I Barely Know Her, Rolling Stone noted, "Sombr performs with a distinct internal confidence and external charm that has been notably absent in the withering releases from many of his male contemporaries in pop."
Earlier this year, he showcased the album’s vibrant fourth single "12 to 12" in a Best New Artist medley during the 2026 Grammy Awards. Additionally, he made a notable debut at Coachella in April, where he traversed a rapidly growing catalog of hits, including a special appearance by Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins.
Sombr's performance at the American Music Awards is part of a busy schedule that includes earlier performances at the Brit Awards, where he sang "Undressed" and "Back to Friends," as well as the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, where he performed both "12 to 12" and "Back to Friends."
Reflecting on his journey, Sombr shared with Nylon, "I am someone who would have been happy doing anything creative as a job, as long as I could get by. There was no fucking possibility that I could be a successful artist. You are told it's one in a million. It truly is."
